The invention of these onion goggles is proof that everyone is different. I know many people who don't have any problems cutting onions, but I have always had problems with it and in my case it's more than your average tears. When I start to cut an onion, within 15 seconds I have tears streaming down my face and my eyes are burning, and then they remain tender and a little swollen for hours afterwards, as if they've been exposed to a caustic chemical agent. So, being the resourceful girl that I am I have spent a LOT of time online searching for tips on how to cut onions without the tears. Seriously, you name it, and I've tried it. It's been over a year since I discovered these onion goggles, and during that time I tried every other 'remedy' out there, trying to convince myself that they are just another unnecessary gadget. I even tried other types of goggles (like the safety goggles from our tool box), which helped a little but there were still tears (and residual burning/tenderness) and they were hard to see through when cutting and I didn't want my fingers to get cut as well.
Well, a couple weeks ago I was tired of avoiding onions, so I broke down and purchased these for about $17 on amazon. Travis laughed when I first put them on, but by the time I was done cutting an onion, I was the one laughing. I was giddy!! Not one tear. Not one bit of burning in my eyes. I could see clearly through them (no problems with fogging), so no problems there either. I am one happy lady.
So next time you hear someone questioning whether these are necessary, you'll know the answer. If you've tried everything else and you've still got tears, get yourself a pair of these.
